Ultimate Gamer: The Final Gauntlet

Run the Final Gauntlet for the finale of the inaugural Ultimate Gamer tournament. Compete in team-based trials in Minecraft, Fortnite, and Mario Kart, culminating in head-to-head Marvel Rivals matches—pros and novices are welcome! 

Complete challenges at each Ultimate Gamer event to earn points in a year-long competition against other CU Boulder students to be named the Ultimate Gamer! 
 

How does this event work?

• Free entry. All skill levels welcome. Pros and novices encouraged!
• Teams are 6 people. Teams can be pre-made or made at the event. Teams should be checked in by 3:50pm.
• Teams complete team-based trials in preliminary and final rounds. Players earn points towards the event and the year-long Ultimate Gamer based on their team’s performance in each round’s challenges.
• During the preliminary round, teams divide their players to race in Mario Kart 8, complete Minecraft Bingo squares, or squad up in Fortnite (unranked, no-build). Each game’s challenge is played concurrently.
  • At least one player per team must attempt each game; no more than 2 players from the same team can race in Mario Kart 8 at the same time.
• During the final round, teams play casual head-to-head matches of Marvel Rivals.
  • Best of 5, either against teams in the Gaming Lounge or unranked matchmaking.
• At the end of the event, the team with the most points receives nominal prizes. The individual with the most points across all Ultimate Gamer events in 2024-25 receives the title of “Ultimate Gamer 2025” and additional prizing.
• We will crown our Ultimate Gamer winner: the person who earned the most points throughout this year at each Ultimate Gamer event. 

Schedule for the Day

• 3pm - 3:50pm: Team Sign In
• 4pm - 4:45pm: Preliminary Game Challenges

• 5pm - 7:30pm: Marval Rivals (best of 5)
• 7:45pm - 8:00pm: Final awards presentation

Game Rules & Point Matrix

Mario Kart 8 Rules & Points

• Teams race in two Grand Prixes. Players earn points for their team based on how they place in a Grand Prix. No more than 2 players from the same team can race at the same time.

• Points
  • 1st place = 5 points
  • 2nd place = 4 points
  • 3rd place = 3 points
  • 4th place = 2 points
  • 5th place = 1 point

Minecraft Bingo Rules & points

• Each team is assigned a random "easy" bingo card. Teams have 45 minutes to complete as many squares as possible. World generation seed is dictated by the bingo card. More than one person per team can contribute to completing the bingo card, though all members of the same team must be in the same world open to LAN.

  • Teams earn 2 points per 5 squares completed (total 10 points). Squares do not need to be in a pattern, row, column, shape, etc. to count.

Fortnite Rules & Points

• Teams play unranked no-build Fortnite. Teams earn points based on the squad's best performance for any matches between 4pm - 4:45pm

  • Victory Royale = 10 points
  • 2nd – 5th place = 8 points
  • 6th – 10th place = 6 points
  • 11th – 15th place = 4 points
  • 16th – 20th place = 2 points

Marval Rivals Rules & Points

• Teams play 6-person matches, either against other teams in the Lounge or in unranked matchmaking. If playing in the Teams play Best of 5 matches. Teams earn points based on their record.

  • 3 Wins, 0 Losses = 10 points
  • 3 Wins, 1 Losses = 8 points
  • 3 Wins, 2 Losses = 6 points
  • 2 Wins, 3 Losses = 4 points
  • 1 Win, 3 Losses = 2 points
  • 0 Wins, 3 Losses = 1 point

Prizes

The top point earner for the event received nominal prizing:

• First place = 8 hours of free game time in the Lounge, and Gaming Lounge swag
• Second place = 3 hours free game time in the Lounge, and Gaming Lounge swag
• Third place = Gaming Lounge swag

The top point earner across all Ultimate Gamer events in 2024-25 will receive:

• A free Fall Semester 2025 Gaming Lounge pass
• A free Spring Semester 2026 Gaming Lounge pass
• A trophy

Ties for Ultimate Gamer are broken in the following order:

• Highest average placement in all Ultimate Gamer events
• Number of Ultimate Gamer events attended
