Advisor Interest Form 2026-2027

Before You Express Interest

Thank you for your interest in serving as a Faculty/Staff Advisor for a Recognized Student Organization (RSO).

We will share your information directly with RSO leaders who outreach to us in search of an advisor.

How the matching system works:

An RSO will outreach to us asking for a list of potential advisors.
CSI will match potential advisors to the RSO based on responses and provide the options available to the RSO leaders.
The RSO will outreach to the potential advisor.
If the faculty/staff member agree to be their advisor then the RSO will complete the 'RSO Advisor Change Form' to identify their advisor
The advisor will need to sign the Advisor Agreement and then complete an Advisor Training to solidify their advisor status.

This survey will gather information from you to help us make meaningful matches for you.

Completion of this form is not a guarantee that you will become an advisor - you will still have time to confirm/deny any potential advisor position.

Requirement Details

If you and RSO decide to move forward:

Annual Advisor Agreement:
- Advisor Agreements are required to be signed each academic year during the Annual RSO Registration.
- If you would like to review the RSO agreement you can go here. To be an advisor, you'll be required to have supervisor approval. You will review and sign this agreement officially through BuffConnect once the RSO requests you as an advisor.
  - Submitting this interest form does not require supervisor approval. If you are selected by an RSO and decide to move forward, you will need to obtain supervisor approval before serving as an advisor.
Advisor Training:
- Trainings will be required for every RSO Advisor and will be required every two years. Guidance on how to complete and when to complete the trainings will be provided by CSI as RSO Advisors are identified.

Help Us Understand You

Recognized Student Organizations select a 'category' for themselves to exist within. These categories might be a good indicator of shared interests between you and the organization.

Of the student organization categories below, select any which you might have interest/knowledge/passion for. *

Art, Music & Entertainment: Engage in activities centered around the creation or celebration of art, music, film, and other outlets for creativity.

Business: Focuses on expanding their knowledge of the business industry or on sharing this knowledge with others.

Community Service & Engagement: Engage in service within their community for a common cause.

Cultural & International: Focus on fostering cultural awareness and building community through cultural or international identities.

Dance & Performance: Promote an interest in dance, improv, singing, and other performance arts.

Engineering & Technology: Focus on expanding their knowledge of the various fields of engineering and technology as well as building community within the field.

Environmental: Connect over a shared interest in the environment. They often focus on contributing towards environmental sustainability by taking action or promoting awareness.

Gaming (Video, Cards, Tabletop, etc): Connect around a shared interest in the play, development, or study of casual or competitive gaming. This includes video games, esports, tabletop games, board games, chess, card games, trading card games, and all other forms of games, gaming, or game-related culture or communities.

Government & Politics: Share an interest in government and create community around the sharing of a variety of political perspectives.

Graduate & Professional Studies: Focus on supporting current graduate students (master/doctoral programs) in various fields or preparing undergraduate students who seek to pursue graduate school.

Honor Society: Focus on fostering excellence in academics, leadership, and more. They are often connected to a larger national organization. Often times there is a selection/recruitment process.

Humanities, Writing, and Publications: Share an interest in humanity subjects such as language, history, philosophy, and literature or engage in activities centered around the creation or celebration of writing and publications.

Law & Law School: Shared interest in specific legal fields, facets of the law, or aspects of the law school experience.

Recreation, Fitness, and Wellness: Engage in physical activities related to a common interest in sports or general fitness and wellness.

Religion & Spirituality: Focus on connecting with students who share a religious and/or spiritual interest. Often times RSOs in this category create opportunities to practice beliefs in a shared space.

Science & Mathematics:Focus on expanding their knowledge within scientific or mathematical fields or on sharing this knowledge with others.

Social Community: Focus on the creation of community through aspects of a common social identity. This may include but not limited to race, gender, sexuality, economic status, ability status, neurodivergence, and more.

Social Justice & Activism: Focus on various levels of activism such as but not limited to bringing awareness to unjust processes, advocating for change, or creating opportunities for their members to connect with activists within the community.

Special Interests and Hobbies: Focus on connecting students who share a particular interest in area or participate in a shared hobby, aside from gaming.

Help Us Understand Your Availability

Many student organizations meet during evenings and on weekends, though individual student leaders may prefer to meet during regular business hours during the week.

The level of involvement an advisor has with an RSO is determined collaboratively by the advisor and the organization. For example, some RSOs may ask advisors to attend a meeting once a month, while others may only request periodic meetings with the executive board rather than participation in general body meetings.

CSI will review your responses when an RSO contacts us seeking an advisor.
If your interests and availability appear to be a good match, CSI may share your information with the RSO.
The RSO may contact you to discuss the organization and advisor role.
You are not obligated to accept the position.
If you and the RSO agree to move forward, you will complete the required advisor agreement and training.
